Something I’d Like to Share….

I just found this video on Godtube.com and just had to share it with you. It is quite dramatic and absolutely incredible. I got very emotional the 1st time I watched it. I am just so thankful that Jesus is bigger than any of our problems.

July 27, 2009 - 7:59 am Jeff Andrews - Wow! ... such incredible symbolism. Thanks for sharing . It moved me. Jeff

February 15, 2009 - 8:05 pm Leonora Di Cocco - This Video brings me to tears each time I watch it. The message is so powerful, and so Crystal Clear. I watch it every so often thinking that I might react differently...but quickly realize that I'm wrong. Thank you!

Under the weather

I have been dealing with a heavy case of Bronchitis (on the verge of pneumonia) since I got back from Vegas. It has wiped me out completely. I have been doing so much traveling this past while, and I guess it’s caught up with me. I’m always on the run, but now I am forced to rest and be still and do nothing. (which is the hardest thing for me because I’m a “doer”). I’ve had lots of time to reflect and think about “life” stuff. I believe this illness has actually done me alot of good…..if that makes any sense. Sometimes we need to pull back and just be still.

For those who know me well, you know that I’m not a believer of taking antibiotics for the little things. And although pnemonia is not neccessarily little, I still believe in the “natural” methods of healing without side effects. So….I’ve started drinking LOTS and LOTS of boiled gingeroot (a natural antibiotic) and whole cloves. This stuff is amazing! I have felt much better since I’m drowning myself in it. It really works! I am healing really nicely. (If you’d like, you can e-mail me for the full receipe).

Plus, my sister dropped off a delicious home-made vegetable soup with pastina, and brought some groceries for me (since I had run out of food). A little love goes a long way.

(P.S. - I’m trying to teach my eldest cat to bring me a glass of water…..but he’s not doing it :o(

April 10, 2008 - 9:41 pm shipra - sounds...well, honestly it sounds yuck! Boiled ginger? I'm not big into meds if there's an alternative but, gotta say, good for you.

March 27, 2008 - 2:52 pm Glendon - up and about already eh? nice to see. I'll be sure to bring u some of the "c-word" (it's brown and rhymes with "oculate") next time i see ya. haha milk or Dark Sil?

I’m speechless…..WPPI Awards

I’ve just returned from attending the WPPI Convention in Las Vegas where I received 13 Awards of Excellence and 3rd Place International Award for my “American Gothic Chicken”. (special thanks to my couple Vanessa & Simon for willing to chase a chicken with me.) I am still in shock as this was my 1st time entering into any competition, so placing 3rd was totally unexpected. I am humbled….and I thank God for this strong passion He has given me, and for making this happen. (I prayed over every print before entering it, and beleive this is the only reason why I won!)

Also, I connected with so many incredible people. It was great to “hang” out with those that I met for the very first time, and those I knew quite well. I was humbled to be around the presence of such talented and well-known photographers (and videographers) from around the world! What an unforgetable experience. Thank-you!

And here are the rest of the winning images:

March 30, 2008 - 4:39 pm Anonymous - Amazing images, Just curious, I'm one of the many Photographers in WPPI who noticed that some of the couples looked like models. Are they Models or actual couples

March 28, 2008 - 5:29 pm Anonymous - AMAZING WORK SILVANA!!! You did our wedding years ago, and your work just keeps getting better and better!! Congratulations on your Awards! they are well deserved!! btw, i love your site.. who designed it for you?

Silvana submitted 16 prints into the competition, and 13 or so hung with other world class photographers.

Hung: prints that were scored over 80 (pretty hard to do) hung in a room where everyone could see some of the best photos in the world.

March 24, 2008 - 9:06 am BEK Photography Etc. - Congratulations Silvana!!!! I am so happy for you. Your selections are all fantastic! But I love ALL of your work. The chicken was definitely worth it... and the crazy drive to get there too :)

March 23, 2008 - 12:00 pm Judy - Congratulations Silvana ... most definitely well deserved on all the images. Gorgeous images and fabulous processing.

March 22, 2008 - 10:18 am vanessa - Woo hoo!!!! Congratulations. As soon as you suggested that we grab a chicken, I knew that you were onto something (I thought, "this is why I hired this woman! She's fun and she takes risks!"). We love this photo so much and so do all of our friends and family.

I love this photo because it is so tongue and cheek, so funny, yet sincere (if that makes sense). We live in Manhattan, yet we have this photo of us on a farm, holding a chicken and pitchfork. The fancy clothes contrast beautifully with the theme of the humble husband and wife. Plus you make us look great.

Congratulations again!

March 21, 2008 - 5:06 pm David - What can I say Sil? I'm honoured and blessed in two ways, I have the same Lord in my life, and He has givin you to me as my friend....as always your work amazes me.

David

March 20, 2008 - 11:57 pm Glendon - SWEEEEEEEEEEEET!!! Congrats Sil!!! hahaha and i'm glad to have you back home. This just re-emphasizes what a privilege to be working with ya. May our Lord continue to do amazing things through you. :)

That's it, next year you're taking me with you okay?!?! :D

March 20, 2008 - 11:22 pm Daisy Varley - WOW! - your images are breathtaking! Watching the video of wining images + beautiful music, sent a chill down my spine. Congratulations!

March 20, 2008 - 10:20 pm Juliet Nicole - Congratulations! I love that image you took in Texas of the homeless man and the story you shared about it. I actually saw you at Jared's talk at WPPI, but I had to leave fast to meet my sister and didn't see you afterwards. I'm so happy you won! You totally deserve it. The images are amazing!

Life is So Precious

It really amazes me how everyone’s life is so unique. Different jobs…different cultures…different upbringings…different struggles…different hurts and different joys. But I believe we all share something in common, that is, God has breathed life into each one of us, and has a purpose and plan for all of us….no matter how small we think we are. We are so important to Him. We mean the world to Him. That is incredible.

I hope you enjoy my video celebrating life….

Love,
Silvana ~

April 29, 2008 - 7:53 pm kelligee@gmail.com - WOW. That was beautiful. Wonderful job!

Thank you for your pictures and especially for giving credit to God for blessing you in this occupation. I'm also a believer and I feel like God will bless me in this occupation as well. It's just SO HARD to figure everything out! Contracts, websites, lenses, editing, proofing, etc. etc. etc.!! Was it hard for you to get started as well? I'd love to hear back from you. You can click on my name and I think it'll lead you to my complete profile and you can see my blogs. www.shelahphotography.blogspot.com is my photography site.

March 9, 2008 - 9:26 am Anonymous - These images stir so much emotion and feeling...You have taken me to a place filled with so much poverty and hardship, and yet you have captured so much joy and happiness...you force us to re-evaluate our own lives and we reach the conclusion that our lives are filled with so many material things, and in many instances our hearts are empty...you are so very talented and your eyes see the beauty of this world where many of us would only see depair...Thank you for sharing your vision...I am so moved by these images that you have captured...also the cinemetography, composition, music selection, etc...are soooo good...thank you for sharing...

March 8, 2008 - 9:47 pm Nans - This could be just one of many things you could do, if you ever wanted to leave the wedding business. i can't believe the the gifts and talents God has blessed you with. you always manage to bring that tear to my eye.

Back from Dominican !!

What a week! I planned a surprise visit to my father who has been living in the Dominican Republic for 10 years now. I decided to just “show up” in front of his home. Needless to say….he was shocked! I challenged myself not to take any photos on this trip…..so I shot video instead! It was my 1st time holding a video camera….and 1st attempt at editing, so please forgive my skills. I had so much fun shooting this!! My dad is getting up there in age, so I will cherish this moment forever.

I was so excited to finally reach my dad’s home…..but he wasn’t there! So I waited in the bushes for 45 min. until I saw his little red car drive by. Then I ambushed him! He was like a deer caught in headlights! His smile at the end was priceless. I love him so much. Here’s the video!

This 2nd video is a Montage of Real Life in the Dominican

There is a 3rd video that I am working on, so keep watch!

Silvana ~

March 20, 2008 - 11:24 pm Lanny - I've seen many of your images while working in the lab and knew you are by far the most talented photographer around but then this video? Oh man, this really gave me the goose bumps...smile on your dad was incredible. I wish I can see my dad smile again...he passed away 3years ago, so reminds me how precious these moments are.

March 9, 2008 - 9:08 am Anonymous - You are truly incredible, obviously you are very talented and you put so much hard work into your craft...however, what makes you so amazing is how you are able to give so much joy and happiness to those around you...I can't even begin to imagine the happiness you have brought your dear father, I know that he will cherish this forever...and thank you for sharing this very private and personal moment with the rest of us...your vision in making the video is so well done, also good music selection...you are a true blessing in this world, you are the catalyst that makes us all want to be better people in our everyday lives...from the bottom of my heart...Thank you...
